Insulated Conservatory Roof

What Is an Insulated Conservatory Roof?

Traditional conservatories with glass or polycarbonate roofs can become cold in winter and unbearably hot in summer. Our insulated roof solves this problem by adding a thermal barrier. It retains internal warmth and blocks solar heat.

Instead of thin glazing, we install layered insulation, a solid ceiling, and external tiles that look like a traditional extension but keep the room far more comfortable.

Key features:

  • Replaces the old roof structure entirely
  • Uses high‑performance insulation (including Celotex and SuperQuilt)
  • Adds a finished internal ceiling (plasterboard & skim or UPVC‑clad)
  • Finished with a membrane and tiles to match your house

This upgrade turns a seasonal conservatory into a space you can use all year round.

Why Your Conservatory Needs Insulation

Most conservatories are notoriously difficult to use year-round because traditional materials like glass or polycarbonate provide very little thermal resistance. Without insulation, your space is at the mercy of British weather.

Here’s what our insulated conservatory roof solves:

The Greenhouse Effect in Summer

During heatwaves, internal temperatures rise above 40°C as large areas of glass trap solar heat. It’s far beyond the comfortable 19 to 22°C. Insulation lets you stay in that range even when the outside is hot.

The Icebox in Winter

Up to 80-90% of a conservatory’s heat escapes through the roof if the roof material is glass. In the winter, it makes the room feel like an icebox even with the heating turned on. Insulation traps warmth inside and makes the space usable.

Boiler Overdrive

Without insulation, you might be using expensive electric heaters or radiators that must run constantly to keep the space usable. That means you can now save on energy bills, as our insulation will retain 90% of the heat.

Efficiency Drain

Homes and properties with uninsulated conservatories are reported to consume up to 36% more gas to keep the space warm than those with insulated conservatories.

Surface Moisture

When warm indoor air hits the cold surfaces of an uninsulated roof, water droplets form. They gradually cause musty odours, damp patches, and mould. Insulation stabilises internal temperature and prevents moisture damage to flooring and furniture.

Deafening Rain

You have heard what heavy rain on a thin polycarbonate roof can sound like. It makes conversations or watching TV almost impossible. Our solid-tile insulated roof reduces this sound by up to 95%, giving you the quiet you need at home.

UV Damage

Sunlight through a glass roof can permanently damage curtains, furniture, and carpets. Once insulation is done, there’s no chance of UV damage to your precious belongings.

How We Install Your Insulated Conservatory Roof

Our installation process is straightforward and as customer-centric as it gets. It is usually completed in 2-3 days with minimal disruptions.

1. Free On-Site Assessment & Quote

We visit your home, take a look at the existing conservatory, and discuss your needs, the materials we use, and pricing. We give you a clear, no-obligation quote and no pressure.

3. Careful Removal of the Old Roof

The work starts with placing dust covers. Then we remove the furniture free of charge. After that, we carefully dismantle the old glass or polycarbonate roof.

2. Time-Frame is Set

Once you know exactly what you are paying for and agree to it, the contract is firm. Then we easily establish a start date and the time needed to complete the project.

4. Building the Insulated Roof

After removing the old material, we install the 50mm Celotex insulation panels and treat fire-rated timber battens internally and externally. Then we use 19mm layers of SuperQuilt insulation blanket. These provide high-quality heat reflection and reduce noise, too. Then we add a solid ceiling base underneath.

5. Internal and External Finishing

On the inside, we use a finish you choose (plaster & skim or UPVC‑clad ceiling). For the outside, we lay a waterproof roof membrane. Then, we finish the work with tiles that match your house’s roofline.

6. Tidy Up and Handover

Once all work is done, we clean the area thoroughly, reset furniture, and jet-wash the place to leave it in tip-top condition. Then we discuss the job and make sure that you are satisfied with all aspects of it.

Materials That Work for the Long Term

To transform your conservatory from a greenhouse into a comfortable living space, we use materials that handle UK weather with ease and meet modern safety standards.

Materials for Thermal Performance and Climate Control

  • 50mm Celotex Insulation

This is a high-performance board with a thermal resistance of approximately 2.38 m2K/W. It slows heat loss significantly and is moisture-resistant, too.

  • 19mm SuperQuilt Insulation

This 19-layer reflective insulation acts like a double-sided mirror. It reflects radiant heat into the room in winter and pushes a lot of solar heat out in summer.

  • Thermal Control

We combine these two materials to create a super-insulated barrier that can make a room up to 90% warmer in winter and, similarly, way cooler in summer.

  • Vapour Control

Celotex’s moisture-resistant properties and SuperQuilt’s vapour control prevent condensation and mould issues common with glass and polycarbonate roofs.

Materials for Safety and Structural Integrity

  •     Fire-Rated Timber Battens & Plasterboard

We use fire-rated battens to ensure the entire structural framework supporting the ceiling remains strong for longer during a fire. Our plasterboards are ideal for building a solid foundation for a clean and flat ceiling.

  •     Fire-Rated 5.5w LED Downlights

Standard LEDs in an insulated ceiling might pose a fire risk if heat builds up near the insulation. Fire-rated downlights have an intumescent seal that expands at high temperatures, restoring the ceiling’s fire barrier. At 5.5W, they are highly energy-efficient and are sufficiently bright.

Benefits of an Insulated Conservatory Roof

If you have a traditional conservatory roof, your room is a “seasonal space”, but after we install an insulated conservatory roof, it will become a fully functional year-round living space.

1. Year-Round Thermal Comfort

During winter, your conservatory is a cosy room where you can sit, relax, or entertain without worrying about any chill creeping in. During the summer, it is a bright, pleasantly cool space. You can enjoy it on warm, sunny days.

2. Significant Energy Savings

Your insulated conservatory removes the constant need to turn up the heating or rely on any expensive temporary fixes. So, you actually save money every day.

3. Noise Reduction and Acoustics

At your new conservatory, there’s no loud drumming overhead when it rains. This makes the environment quieter, making it easier to relax or focus.

4. Protection and Maintenance

Constant sun exposure is a thing of the past when your conservatory roof is insulated, so your interiors can keep their colour and character. The space becomes drier and fresher (no mould or damp patches) and is easy to maintain.
